St. Norbert extended its nation-leading record of conference wins on Wednesday night, beating Carroll University easily 82-58, the Green Knights' 54th straight Midwest Conference game victory.
BR-26 St. Norbert continued a streak of wins in the league that started back in February, 2013 after the Green Knights last lost a conference game, to Grinnell. They didn't lose in the conference the rest of that season and went through two complete seasons undefeated in league play coming into this year.
St. Norbert (13-2, 10-0 MWC) is now a game and a half ahead of BR-132 Carroll (12-2, 8-1 MWC) in the conference. The Green Knights play next on Saturday in another MWC game, hosting Monmouth. They then have three MWC road games, at Ripon, the rematch at Carroll and at Lawrence.
The Green Knights got out ahead of Carroll early in Wednesday's game, taking a 20-5 lead on an 18-3 run early in the first half. St. Norbert would eventually extend its lead to 20. The Pioneers were plagued by turnovers, giving the ball away 18 times.
The Green Knights' D.J. DeValk matched his career high with 25 points. Terrence Garner added 14 points and nine rebounds.
After St. Norbert's 54-game conference win streak, the next best in D3 belongs to Babson, which has won 15 straight games in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. The St. Norbert streak is also believed to be the second longest conference run in D3 history, behind Wheaton's 61-game unbeaten conference streak in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in the 1950s.
