Arizona State has never won a national championship, nor has the 118-year-old program ever had a player win the Heisman Trophy. They own 17 conference titles across three different conferences (Border, WAC and Pac-10), but only one since 2000. Dennis Erickson led them to a Pac-10 title in 2007, going 7-2 in league play and tying USC for the crown.
The Sun Devils have experienced a tremendous number of ups-and-downs over the last few decades, struggling to find long-term stability, with the exception of the most successful run in program history in the 1960s and 70s under Frank Kush. Current head coach Todd Graham led ASU to back-to-back double-digit-win seasons for the first time since 1972 and 1973 but has failed to win a conference title. They came close in 2013, capturing the South crown before falling to Stanford in the Pac-12 title game, 38-14.
Even with the ups and downs, the Sun Devils own the state of Arizona.
