Answer
Independence, Texas
R.E.B. Baylor, a Baptist minister and judge, was part of a group that wished to establish a Baptist university in Texas, which was an independent republic, in the 1840's. Four years later, after lobbying to Congress of the Republic of Texas, Baylor University was established in the unincorporated community of Indendepence, Texas. It wasn't until three decades later that Baylor moved 112 miles northwest to Waco.
