The 129th-ranked team in the HERO Sports Preseason College Football Rankings, UConn hasn't won more than three games in a season since 2015 and is one of five FBS teams with fewer than 10 wins over the last four years.

"They think they're going to be bad," an anonymous FBS assistant coach told Athlon Sports. "Getting worse. Call it hopeless if you want. It's just messed up. They need to go FCS. I'm not sure what being an indie gets you."
Randy Edsall's return to Storrs has been disastrous. One decade after leading UConn to the Fiesta Bowl (and 33 wins over four years), Edsall hasn't found traction as the Huskies enter their first year of independence. If they do find anything in 2020, it'll likely come from a talented group of skill players led by running back Kevin Mensah and receiver Cameron Ross. Ross had 40 receptions and four touchdowns as a true freshman in 2019 despite another season of quarterback issues.
The defense returns 10 starters, though it's the epitome of, "Is that a good thing or bad thing?" Those 10 starters (and several other returning contributors) led an atrocious unit that ranked 127th or worse in yards per play, points per play, and yards per rush.
Even with a lighter schedule, it's hard to see the wins. They will play four of the 15 worst teams in the FBS (and one mediocre FCS team) but there's no reason to believe UConn can win more than two games, which should lead to a coaching change and commitment from the university to take their football program more seriously.
