On June 22, 2019, one day after UConn announced their intention to leave the American Athletic Conference and join the Big East in all non-football sports, Brett McMurphy reported the Huskies intended to remain in the FBS instead of dropping to the FCS. With that, and barring any reversal from UConn or shocking announcement from another program, it all but guaranteed the 2019 and 2020 seasons would be played with 130 teams.
