Expectations aren't high for Vanderbilt football. They are, however, higher than a home obliteration by one of the worst teams in college football.
Vanderbilt dropped to 1-5 this season and 25-43 overall in five-plus seasons under head coach Derek Mason with a 24-point loss to UNLV in week 7, their fourth loss this season by at least 18 points. Mason did win 17 games over the last three years and signed a contract extension over the offseason, but he's still 9-34 in the SEC and has finished above fifth in the SEC East only once (fourth in 2015).
