Nearly two years after Southern receiver Devon Gales suffered a spinal injury on the field, he's making remarkable progress.
Gales was a redshirt sophomore in 2015 when he was injured in a loss at Georgia on Sept. 26, 2015. The 5-foot-9, 158-pounder from Louisiana was paralyzed and it was unclear if he would ever walk again.
"Keep fighting, and never let your dreams go down," Gales said during a November 2015 return to Sanford Stadium. "As long as you have faith and confidence in what you are doing, there is nothing that will stop you – with God on your side. With faith and confidence, I push myself everyday – just know that something great will come out of this experience."
He squashed that uncertainty in May, tweeting a video of him walking with the help of physical therapists. And on Monday, Gales returned to the sport he loved. He posted a video to Instagam of him playing catch, impressively catching and throwing the ball back and forth with a therapist.
The video was accompanied with a "PUT ME IN COACH IM READY" proclamation.
