No. 13 David Sills V
West Virginia – WR
For seven years, David Sills was known as the "seventh-grade kid offered a scholarship by Lane Kiffin." Now he's known as one of the best players in college football.
Sills made headlines in 2010 when then-USC head coach Lane Kiffin offered him a scholarship just 20 minutes after Sills' quarterback coach, Steve Clarkson, sent film of the 13-year-old quarterback. It was the start of a journey for Sills that included a commitment to USC, decommitment four years later, enrollment at West Virginia, position switch to receiver, seven receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns in 2015, transfer to El Camino College, switch back to quarterback, transfer back to West Virginia, switch back to receiver.
Then it all came together for David Sills. He went off last year, hauling in 60 receptions for 980 yards and an FBS-high 18 touchdowns.
“I thought he was a next-level receiver early in his career,” West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen said after Sills caught seven touchdowns through their first four games last year. “And he’s just committed to it and he’s getting better and better.”
Both he and quarterback Will Grier passed on the 2018 NFL Draft and return as the best offensive duo in the country.
