The 2018 NFL season is still months away, but there's no time like the present to begin scouring the schedule in anticipation of the season to come. Week 1 on the schedule presents some exciting matchups right off the bat.

The Patrick Mahomes era begins on the road at the Los Angeles Chargers in week one of the NFL season. The Chiefs were so confident in Mahomes' ability to take over as the franchise's quarterback of the future that they traded away Alex Smith in the offseason, throwing all of their eggs in the Mahomes basket.
They'll face a Chargers team that is hungry in 2018 after missing the playoffs a year ago despite a 9-7 season. The defense in L.A. was already pretty good with guys like Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram and Casey Hayward, and they added an intriguing rookie in Derwin James to the mix.
It's been awhile since most people were interested in a Chiefs-Chargers game. That changes this year.
