The Liberty men’s basketball team is heading to the 2025 NCAA Tournament after winning Conference USA. In the CUSA tourney, Liberty defeated UTEP 81-60, Kennesaw State 81-79, and Jacksonville State 79-67 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Flames are 28-6 this season and on a 5-game winning streak.
Liberty NCAA Tournament Appearances
In 2025, Liberty basketball will make its sixth appearance in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament.
The Flames also reached the tourney in 1994, 2004, 2013, 2019, and 2021.

Liberty Basketball NCAA Tournament Wins
Liberty has won one game in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament, defeating Mississippi State 80-76 in 2019. Its overall record in the Big Dance is 1-6.
Liberty Basketball Coach Ritchie McKay
Ritchie McKay is in his 12th season as Liberty’s head basketball coach.
McKay was a head coach at Portland State, Colorado State, Oregon State, and New Mexico before taking over at Liberty in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. He then left Liberty to be the associate head coach at Virginia for six seasons.
McKay returned to Liberty in 2015. Since 2015, Liberty has had eight 20-win seasons, including a 30-4 record in 2019-20. The Flames went 18-14 last year and are currently 28-6.
