With Tulane being ranked No. 22 in the latest College Football Playoff ranking, the Green Wave will likely compete in a New Year’s Six bowl if they win this weekend.
But they will need to defeat another one of the best teams in the Group of Five this year. Tulane (11-1, 8-0 AAC) will host SMU (10-2, 8-0) in the American Athletic Conference Championship at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.

SMU vs. Tulane Prediction
I’m picking Tulane to win and cover the spread at -3.5. I also am predicting the game will go Under 46.5 total points.
SMU (17.7 points per game allowed) and Tulane (18.3 points per game allowed) have the two best scoring defenses in the AAC this season. As much as I think the offenses for both teams are loaded with talent, I believe both programs are even better on defense.
But I think Tulane ultimately has the advantage playing at home. SMU is also without starting quarterback Preston Stone due to injury, so the Mustangs will need to adjust with backup Kevin Jennings taking over behind center.
I could see SMU making this a single-digit contest. However, I believe Tulane will win by a touchdown with a New Year’s Six bowl appearance on the line.
