In the six years Tyson Helton has been the head coach at Western Kentucky, the Hilltoppers have won at least eight games in five of them. In three of those seasons, the Hilltoppers have reached nine victories.
College football betting odds have WKU’s Over/Under win total at 7.5 entering the 2025 season, with the over at -120 and the under at +100. Given how consistent WKU has been under Helton, is this number too low?

How Many Games Will Western Kentucky Win in 2025?
The season starts off with what should be a great matchup when the Hilltoppers host Sam Houston for a Week 0 Conference USA clash. It’s not often we get these conference games to start the season, and it makes it even better there will hardly be any competition for viewership. WKU is 2-0 against the Bearkats since they joined CUSA, and I expect them to make it 3-0 and open the season with a win.
WKU then hosts North Alabama in Week 2 which I expect to be another victory ahead of a pair of matchups against fellow Group of Five programs Toledo and Nevada.
I like the Hilltoppers to pick up a home win over Nevada to close out the non-conference slate, especially since they’ll be coming off a bye.
The Hilltoppers hit the road for three of the following four weeks with contests at CUSA newcomers Missouri State and Delaware, followed by a home game against FIU and then a trip to Louisiana Tech. I think WKU will win three of these games and will be 4-1 in conference play entering November.
The FIU and LA Tech games are scheduled for Tuesday nights and will be nationally televised, which should provide some midweek CUSA excitement.
Coming off its next bye, WKU hosts New Mexico State and Middle Tennessee. I think the Hilltoppers win both of these contests, including a close one over MTSU.
The final two weeks of the regular season won’t be light with contests at LSU and Jacksonville State. I don’t expect WKU to defeat the Tigers, but I think they’ll knock off the Gamecocks and avenge last season’s loss in the CUSA title game.
How Many Games Will Western Kentucky Lose in 2025?
I don’t expect WKU will lose many games. I think the Hilltoppers have no problems at home this season and most or all of their losses will come on the road.
I don’t like WKU’s chances much in its Week 3 trip to Toledo. This is the second year in a row these teams will meet, and WKU won last year’s game, 26-21. This should be another great G5 matchup.
The mid-season stretch where the Hilltoppers will travel for three of the four weeks should also be a challenge. Like I mentioned above, I think they’ll lose one of those games and that it’ll be to Louisiana Tech.
Western Kentucky Football Win Total Prediction
As of now, WKU’s schedule seems favorable, especially in conference play. The Hilltoppers won’t have to play Liberty this season and have a chance to go unbeaten against CUSA opponents.
We still have a lot to learn about what will be a new-look WKU team, but I don’t think it’ll have any problem winning at least eight games.
