The Colorado State vs. Colorado football game may have just gotten more heated.
Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell commented during his radio show on Wednesday that, while doing video segments for ESPN, he takes his hat and sunglasses off when he’s talking to adults. That has been viewed as a jab toward Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, who’s known for wearing hats and sunglasses during press conferences.

ESPN’s popular college football show “College GameDay” is in Boulder this week for the game at Colorado.
“We’re excited,” Norvell said during the clip that’s been shared on social media. “We had to do a bunch of ESPN videos, and it was great. I loved it. But our kids came out of those videos really with a chip on their shoulder. They’re tired of all that stuff. They really are tired of it. And I sat down with ESPN today, and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off, and I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.’”
Those in attendance applauded, and the reaction on social media has been wide ranging.
Some embrace the back-and-forth nature of a rivalry like the Rocky Mountain Showdown, while others believe that will just give the Buffaloes more motivation to win on Saturday. People have also pointed out Norvell sometimes sports a visor during press conferences himself.
Norvell has also spoken highly of Sanders and the job he’s done at Colorado. The Buffs opened the season with wins over TCU and Nebraska, while CSU is 0-1 after losing to Washington State.
How Did Colorado Head Coach Deion Sanders Respond?
Sanders responded while talking to his team in a video shared on social media.
“I’m minding my own business, watching some film, trying to get ready, trying to get out here and be the best coach I can be,” Sanders said, wearing a hat and sunglasses. “And I look up and I read some bulljunk about what they’re saying about us. Once again, why would you want to talk about us when we don’t talk about nobody? All we do is go out here, work our butts off, and do our job on Saturday. But when they give us ammunition, they done messed around and made it what?”
To which his players responded, “Personal.”

Colorado State has +950 odds to defeat Colorado this week.
