Kent State Head Coach Kenni Burns’ Background
Burns was a successful offensive position coach for more than a decade, which led to him being offered the Kent State job.
In 2022, his last year as Minnesota’s associate head coach and running backs coach, he helped the Gophers finish 16th in the country with 207.3 rushing yards per game.
He coached running backs at Minnesota for six years. He worked with the same position group at Western Michigan in 2016.
Before that, he was Wyoming’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator in 2014, his first FBS job. He also coached wideouts at North Dakota State for four years prior to that.
From 2008-09, he coached tight ends and fullbacks at Southern Illinois. He began his career at Division II Millersville while mentoring running backs.
