Texas State defeated Baylor to open the season by double-digit points and is 4-1 overall, but the Bobcats have some tough tests ahead against Sun Belt opponents.
Finding a way to beat Louisiana at home will be one of those challenges.

Texas State Bobcats Football On Upward Trajectory
Texas State has only lost once this year – at UTSA. But other than that game, the Bobcats have won and have done so decisively.
Texas State ranks first in the Sun Belt with 43.4 points per game. T.J. Finley is a major reason for that.
The Bobcats quarterback has thrown for 1,393 yards, 10 touchdowns, and one interception on a 73% completion rate. He’s also run for three touchdowns. He’s completed passes to 12 different receivers this year, with five of them having over 100 receiving yards.
Ismail Mahdi leads the team with 488 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
Texas State’s defense hasn’t been as strong. The Bobcats are 10th in the conference with 29 points allowed per game. Louisiana could win this tilt if that unit doesn’t rise to the occasion.
Ben Bell paces the Bobcats with three sacks, while Brian Holloway has totaled 43 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and an interception.
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Football Aiming To Respond After Minnesota Loss
Louisiana may be 3-2, but that doesn’t reflect the potential of the Ragin’ Cajuns roster.
Though it was in a 35-24 loss, Louisiana gave Minnesota some issues last week. The Ragin’ Cajuns’ only other loss was a 38-31 defeat at Old Dominion.
Zeon Chriss has been Louisiana’s leading passer the past three weeks and has 595 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions on a 68% completion percentage. He’s also rushed for 260 yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Kibodi has a team-best 376 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Similar to Texas State, Louisiana is stronger on offense than on defense. The Ragin’ Cajuns are third in the Sun Belt with 35.8 points per game but allow the fourth-most points on defense with 29 per game.
On defense, Jordan Lawson leads Louisiana with four sacks and Tyree Skipper has a team-high two picks. K.C. Ossai is first on the team with 36 tackles.

Texas State vs. Louisiana Football Prediction
I’m picking Texas State to win and cover the spread at +2.5. I also think this game will go Over 68.5 total points.
Both of these teams are stronger on offense than they are on defense. Their passing games are also performing well the past few weeks, so either team could score in an instant.
But I think Texas State is the better squad. Bobcats head coach G.J. Kinne has done a masterful job of putting together a winning roster, and I believe that’s going to show in a road trip like this.
