The transfer portal can be problematic for even the best Group of Five schools. When some of their best players thrive, that usually leads to Power Four teams expressing interest and those stars transferring.
This offseason, there’s been plenty of transfers, including some star quarterbacks. Here’s a look at standout college football players who have decided to either transfer to G5 schools or to leave Group of Five programs within the past couple weeks, according to On3 and 247Sports.

Joey Aguilar Transfers To Tennessee
Former App State quarterback and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Joey Aguilar decided to go to Tennessee.
Aguilar had initially gone to UCLA this offseason. But after Nico Iamaleava went from Tennessee to UCLA, Aguilar essentially swapped places with him.
Aguilar owns App State’s single-season records for passing yards (3,757), touchdown throws (33), completions (293), and total offensive yards (4,002). He’s also fifth in school records books for career touchdown passes (56) and yards through the air (6,760).
Tulane QB TJ Finley Enters The Portal
Without having played a game at Tulane, Green Wave QB TJ Finley entered the transfer portal.
He’s bounced around several FBS schools.
Finley was reportedly arrested and was suspended from the program this offseason.
In 2024, Finley played at Western Kentucky and appeared in three games before being sidelined in the wake of an injury. In 2023 while at Texas State, Finley threw for 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions on 279-of-414 passing to go with 81 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Finley also played at LSU and Auburn.
Former Texas State, Oregon State QB Gevani McCoy Transfers To Temple
Gevani McCoy, who previously was at Texas State but last played at Oregon State, is headed to Temple.
McCoy had transferred to Texas State after playing in 10 games at OSU in 2024. He completed 123 of 202 passes for 1,300 yards, three touchdowns, and six interceptions while rushing for 328 yards and five scores.
Before that, McCoy played at Idaho where he was a Walter Payton Award finalist, a Jerry Rice Award winner, and an All-Big Sky first-team honoree.

DB Sammy Etienne To Marshall
Sammy Etienne, a former three-star recruit, has committed to Marshall.
Etienne redshirted at West Virginia this past season. While playing at Lakeland High School in Florida, he was the No. 97-ranked safety by 247Sports and the No. 163 overall player in Florida. He received offers from Colorado, Kansas State, Oregon State, and Washington.
Jackson Lataimua To North Texas
Former Washington State defensive back Jackson Lataimua is headed to North Texas.
Lataimua played in 33 games over the past three years at Wazzu. He tallied 67 tackles, 3.5 for loss, with three passes defended, an interception, and one fumble recovery. In 2024, he tallied 32 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a pass defended. He was a three-star prospect out of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California.
Amorion Walker To Middle Tennessee
Amorion Walker, who played both wide receiver and defensive back at Michigan, is going to Middle Tennessee.
Walker was a three-star prospect according to 247Sports and a four-star player per ESPN out of Ponchatoula High School in Louisiana.
Walker played in 16 games over the past three years at Michigan. He caught four passes for 38 yards on offense and tallied three tackles and one pass defended on defense.
