Troy won the Sun Belt Championship a year ago and was one of the favorites to win the conference again going into the season. But the Trojans started the year 2-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
Meanwhile, Georgia State didn’t have as high of expectations. But the Panthers are one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the FBS at 4-0 and are 1-0 against Sun Belt opponents.
The two teams have an opportunity to see who’s a real conference title contender this weekend.

Troy Trojans Football Hoping To Maintain Winning Ways
Troy has lost two of its last three games. Its loss to Kansas State wasn’t that surprising, but the Trojans’ defeat against JMU was a considerable setback.
After defeating Western Kentucky 27-24 last week, Troy has a chance to climb back up the conference standings in this showdown with Georgia State.
Kimani Vidal is one of the leading rushers in the country with 514 yards and two touchdowns on 80 carries. He’s also caught seven passes for 117 yards. He powers the Troy offense which is 50th in the FBS with 417 yards and tied for 84th with 25.5 points per game.

Georgia State Panthers Football Trending Upward
Just a month through the season, Georgia State is close to eclipsing its preseason win total Over/Under of 5.5.
This program is one of the many tough teams in the Sun Belt East, and it proved it was a team to be taken seriously with its 30-17 win over Coastal Carolina.
The Panthers are top 40 in the country with 37 points and 439.8 yards per game on offense. And Darren Grainger has been a key contributor in that effort.
The Georgia State quarterback has thrown for 994 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions on a 70% completion rate. He’s also run for 263 yards and three scores.
But Marcus Carroll has also been important. The Panthers running back is among the top players in the country with 508 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. GSU wide receiver Robert Lewis is first on the team with 386 yards and five touchdowns on 20 receptions.
Cornerback Gavin Pringle leads the team with two interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown, while linebacker Kevin Swint is first on Georgia State with two sacks. The Panthers aren’t as good on defense as they are on offense, though, as they are tied for 58th with 22.75 points per game allowed and 95th with 401 yards allowed per game.

Troy vs. Georgia State Football Prediction
I am predicting Georgia State will win and cover the spread at -1.5. I also anticipate the game to go Over 50.5 total points.
The Over pick is the easiest one for me. These two teams both have strong rushing attacks and both have scoring defenses outside of the top 50 in the FBS.
I could see either team winning, however. Troy is going to be desperate not to start Sun Belt play at 0-2, but Georgia State is playing at such a high level the past few weeks.
Ultimately, I think Grainger will make the plays he needs to in order for Georgia State to end up with a 35-31 win.
