Army was undefeated and on track to contend for a College Football Playoff spot until about a week ago.
The Black Knights were 9-0 going into their game against Notre Dame, and a win there might’ve solidified a strong case for them to make it to the CFP. But instead, the Fighting Irish won 49-14, and Army dropped out of the CFP Selection Committee’s rankings.
The Black Knights do still have plenty to play for, though. They will face UTSA this week with an opportunity to stay undefeated in AAC play going into the conference championship against Tulane.

UTSA vs. Army Prediction
I predict Army will win and cover the spread at -6.5. I also project the game will go Under 54.5 total points.
Just because Army lost in a blowout against Notre Dame doesn’t mean the Black Knights have a bad team. During their nine-game winning streak, none of those contests were even decided by less than 10 points. They were winning with little issue at all.
So I don’t believe this game will be decided by a single possession, either. UTSA is proving to be a solid squad. The Roadrunners have won four of their last five games to earn bowl-eligibility. But I think their offense will struggle to score against an Army defense that, except for Notre Dame, allowed just one team to score more than 14 points all season.
Army’s offense hasn’t been particularly great during the past month, as the Black Knights haven’t scored more than 20 points during their last three contests. But I still expect them to dominate at the line of scrimmage and control this matchup from the beginning.
