Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
22: Isaiah Ifanse, RB (Jr.) — Montana State
The 2017 Washington Gatorade Player of the Year, Ifanse was a huge recruiting get for the Bobcats. The three-star recruit out of Bellevue lived up to expectations when he hit the field as a true freshman in 2018.
Ifanse rushed for 1,025 yards and seven touchdowns, earning All-Big Sky honorable mention honors and being named a HERO Sports Freshman All-American.
The 5-foot-10, 202-pounder battled injuries last season, but still rushed for 813 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games. Ifanse looked to be at full strength late in the year, rushing for 171 yards and three touchdowns in the regular-season finale against Montana. He ran for 196 yards and one touchdown a few weeks later in a quarterfinal win against Austin Peay.
He notched another All-American honor on our Sophomore Team.
Behind an experience MSU offensive line in 2020, Ifanse is set for a huge season in the spring and should gain more respect as one of the top running backs in the FCS.
