Bryce Love entered Week 9 of the 2017 college football season in the discussion for the Heisman Trophy. An ankle injury will take a bite out of any hope the Stanford star had.

Love ran the ball 135 time the first seven games. The result? 1,387 yards — far and away tops in the nation. But the junior is sat out the Cardinal's game versus Oregon State Thursday, a prime opportunity to load up on numbers, which is probably Love's only real shot at the hardware.
Now with one less game to rack up those gaudy stats, Love may fall further behind the hype game led by Penn State RB Saquon Barkley — who is 630 yards behind Love's pace on the ground and 201 yards in total yards from scrimmage — and Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield.
How might the Heisman race look entering the weekend? Maybe something like this:
1. Baker Mayfield, QB — Oklahoma
Week 8: 410 PASS YDS, 2 TD, INT, 69 RUSH YDS, 2 TD @ Kansas State
2017: 2,347 PASS YDS, 19 TD, 2 INT, 91.9 QBR, 170 RUSH YDS, 3 TD
