College football coaches are upping the ante for Mother's Day gifts.
Last week, East Carolina head coach Scottie Montgomery surprised the mom of walk-on defensive end Kiante Anderson with news of her son's scholarship for his final season with the Pirates. And on Sunday, Old Dominion head coach Bobby Wilder did the same, delivering life-changing news to linebacker Marvin Branch and his mother.
During a team meeting on Mother's Day, Wilder got Mrs. Branch on FaceTime and had Marvin, a redshirt junior from Suffolk, Va., who has 44 tackles in two seasons for the Monarchs, read his mother news of his full-ride scholarship.
