Former Ole Miss quarterback Devante Kincade transferred to Grambling State ahead of the 2016 season, and the Tigers have benefited greatly from his presence under center.
Kincade has led Grambling State to a 9-1 overall record this season and a perfect 9-0 record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
The Tigers’ lone loss this season came at the hands of FCS Arizona on the road, when Grambling State jumped out to a 21-3 lead at halftime thanks in part to a pair of touchdown passes from Kincade. He was unable to finish the game due to an injury late in the first half, and the game slipped away. Grambling fell 31-21.
Kincade returned to the lineup the following week to lead Grambling State to a 35-14 win over Jackson State — throwing for 227 yards and a score in the process — and the Tigers haven’t lost since.
Tigers are averaging nearly 47 points per game this season following a 52-30 victory over Southern University in the annual Bayou Classic, a meeting of then-undefeated SWAC teams.
Twice this season Kincade has thrown for at least five touchdown passes in a single game, passing for 400 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-18 win over Alcorn and throwing for 457 yards and six scores in a 70-0 rout of Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Perhaps Kincade’s strongest metric is his passer efficiency of 171.6, the third-highest rating in the entire FCS. With just three interceptions to go along with his 28 passing and six rushing touchdowns, Kincade’s efficiency has helped the Tigers to an impressive season.
Kincade protects the ball and runs a powerful offensive attack for the Grambling State Tigers, and has proven to be one of the top quarterbacks in the FCS during the 2016 season.
