The unquestioned leader of the Richmond offense, Kyle Lauletta is a must-have in the FCS quarterback rankings for the 2016 season.
Lauletta helped the Spiders to an 8-3 overall record, a 5-3 record in Colonial Athletic Association play, and a berth in the FCS playoffs.
The Spiders’ QB ranks ninth in the country with 3,022 passing yards on the season, and sits 13th overall with 24 passing touchdowns. His completion percentage (63.0%) is the 18th-best mark in all of FCS play, and his passer efficiency rating of 153.9 is 12th-best in the country.
Lauletta broke the 400-yard mark in two games this season, a 411-yard performance in a losing effort against Stony Brook and 435 yards and five touchdowns in a back-and-forth brawl with James Madison that saw the Spiders fall just short, 47-43.
He was just as impressive in a 218-yard, 1-touchdown, no-interception performance against a tough Villanova defense for a 23-0 shutout win on Homecoming. The win also marked the start of a five-game run for Lauletta without throwing an interception.
The Spiders made the FCS Playoffs, and took down North Carolina A&T in the first round. Unfortunately, they had do so without Lauletta at the helm of the offense after the quarterback tore his right ACL in the season-ending loss against William & Mary.
The loss to William & Mary was the only game this season that Lauletta didn’t throw for at least 200 yards, as his exit in the second quarter left him with only 107 yards in the game.
Lauletta will be sorely missed in the FCS playoffs by the Spiders and FCS fans alike, but he’s more than worthy of inclusion in our QB rankings.
