In a crucial AAC clash, Rayuan Lane III provided the finishing touches on a substantial win for his team.
Navy was up going against Memphis 49-44 with under a minute to play, but Memphis had the ball at the Midshipmen’s 26-yard line and still had a chance to take a lead before time expired. Tigers quarterback Seth Henigan caught a shotgun snap, and with a clean pocket, he thought he spotted an open receiver.
But he was wrong. Lane darted toward the ensuing pass, picked it off, and outran Henigan as well as everyone else for a touchdown. That gave Navy a double-digit lead and cemented a victory.
Lane has been a star in the Midshipmen’s secondary for a while. And he has what it takes to contribute in myriad ways for an NFL team.

I project Rayuan Lane III will be picked in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Lane’s draft stock may have taken a hit by his time in the 40-yard dash, but I think teams will still love his tape. He has the skills to be a solid player, including on special teams, and I think that would be worth a draft pick in the later part of Day 3.

Rayuan Lane III ran the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds at the 2025 NFL Combine. That was 13th among 15 safeties who participated.
He was fourth among 13 safeties with a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches, and was fifth among 15 safeties with a 37-inch vertical jump. He also ran the 20-yard shuttle in 4.28 seconds, which was third among seven safeties, and the three-cone drill in 7.1 seconds, which was fifth among six in his position group.

Rayuan Lane III was a Group of Five All-American and an All-AAC selection in 2024. He was phenomenal during his last year at Navy.
Lane racked up 70 tackles, seven passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Among safeties who played at least 200 snaps during the 2024 season, Lane was in the top 20 of Pro Football Focus’ overall and coverage grades.
But the thing with Lane is that he’s been consistent for the entirety of his career.
In 2023, he totaled 66 tackles, three for loss, with 12 passes defended, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. The year prior, he chalked up 71 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, four passes defended, two forced fumbles, and a pair of fumble recoveries.
For his career, he tallied 244 tackles, eight TFLs, 28 passes defended, eight forced fumbles, seven picks, and three fumble recoveries.
Rayuan Lane III NFL Comparison & 2025 NFL Draft Profile
I believe some elements of Lane’s game are comparable to Kenny Moore II. Moore played for a smaller program in Valdosta State, but he’s thrived as a nickel corner in the NFL after playing safety in college.
Lane’s skill set is versatile as well, as he could line up almost anywhere in the secondary. He’s excellent in coverage and in run support.
Lane’s 40 time may not have been the fastest in this draft class, but he sure closes in on ball carriers quickly on tape. When the ball is in the air on passing plays, Lane can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time and disrupt things. And if receivers did catch passes in his vicinity, they usually were on the ground quickly.
Lane is also physical and disciplined. He wraps up on tackles and doesn’t let many opponents get away from him.
I could absolutely see Lane being a great contributor on special teams in the NFL as well, which is why I believe teams will have him highlighted on their draft boards on Day 3.
