Hockey is a brotherhood, and this Friday night Manhattanville College is doing its part to honor its kin from up north. The Valiants are hosting a "Light the Rink" ceremony to pay tribute to 16 Humboldt Broncos junior hockey players whose lives were tragically cut short on April 6.

As you probably know, 16 Broncos athletes passed away earlier this year — and another 13 were injured — when their bus collided with a semi-trailer truck near Armley, Saskatchewan. Hockey fans, celebrities, and more showed their support for the club and $15.1 million was raised via GoFundMe.
The head coach of Manhattanville, Arlen Marshall, played four years of junior hockey for the Broncos from 2002-06. He and his program will honor Humboldt during a ceremony on Friday featuring a 16-second period of silence to honor the lives lost. The observance, which takes place during the Valiants' home opener at Playland Ice Casino, will provide glow-in-the-dark thundersticks to the first 250 fans. Before dropping the first punk, the venue's lights will turn down, and the thundersticks will lite up.
Manhattanville tied its last contest against Nazareth College and enters Friday's game against Lebanon Valley College with a 0-1-1 record. The team went 12-9-5 last year and 14-11-1 during the 2016-17 season.
