North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. The redshirt sophomore played in the Bison’s one-and-only game this fall, Oct. 3 against Central Arkansas, and will not play in the 2021 FCS spring season as he prepares for the draft.
Draft experts have Lance as a Top 3 QB and a potential Top 10 overall draft pick.
Lance burst onto the scene last year in his first season as a starter. He was the first-ever freshman to win the Walter Payton Award, given to the subdivision’s best offensive player. The 6-foot-4, 226-pounder went 192-of-287 passing for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Lance was just as dominant with his legs, rushing for 1,100 yards and another 14 TDs.
NDSU went 16-0 en route to its eighth national title in nine years.

Against UCA this last weekend, Lance was 15-of-30 passing for 149 yards, two TDs and one interception while rushing for 143 yards and two scores.
Lance would be the third-straight NDSU quarterback to get drafted. Carson Wentz was the No. 2 overall pick in 2016 and Easton Stick was selected in the fifth round in 2019.
